 Department of Geography

        Department of Geography is one of the highest rating departments in the college. It is academically strong and prestigious. Department made tremendous progress in the last five years. Total workload of the department is 72 periods of 45 minutes. 4 fulltime faculty members are required to engage this workload. It has separate well equipped laboratory with 10 computers with Internet connection. All faculty members are well qualified, well trained and computer knowledgeable which is strength .Department has smart classroom with Wi-Fi connection. For urgent and daily circulation to student’s department than departmental library of hundred reference books coordinated by Mr Sunil Gavit. To enhance other skills to survive department conducts. IIRS certificate courses, poultry farming course, tours and travels course, environmental sustainability courses every year coordinated by different faculty members every year.

        Department has well occupied laboratory with weather instruments, weather maps, political and physical maps,3D maps, GPS machines, plane meter, slides, slide player, projectors, serving material dumpy and others toposheets, globe electric, hanging globe, overhead projector etc. Department has one smart classroom with Saga software, it made students very accessible 50 plus students can be accommodated in the smart classroom, it become very easy to teach and demonstrate any concept to students.

        Our students made us pride and proud by ranking in Shivaji University merit scholarship,Ms. Deepali Jagtap cash scholarship RS 15000 and Mr. Pranil Chavan continuous three years merit scholarship RS 5000. More than 27 students are placed in various fields from 2006 onwards. Like GIS, education, self-business, defence forces etc. Every year more than ten students are getting admitted to PG courses. One candidate Kailas Madane from the department got qualified and admitted for doctoral research work in Shivaji University. Our students maintained glorious tradition of meritorious records. Faculty members of the department are also having brilliant performances and achievements, our former head Dr. B. T. Kanse awarded by three different awards by different NGOs and Institute. From him only the tradition to get awarded, he got Lifetime Achievement Award (Thailand), Eminent Scientist (Singapore) and Distinguish Geographer (Dubai) he contributed well to the department.

        Dr. Arjun Wagh, head of the department also has excellent academic performances, he got M.Phil/Ph.D recognition,PG-Teaching recognition, and working as a member of e-content creation committee of BOS Shivaji University Kolhapur.He also honoured by various National International and State Level awards, Best Research Article And Presentation Award (Koregaon).Best Organiser Of International Seminar (Pachgani), Gaurav Award (Tasgaon), State level Shikshan Ratna Award (Sangola), State Level Samaj Bhushan Award (Usmanabad), International level Outstanding Scientist Award (Tamilnadu) International Research Excellence Award (Banglore), National Teaching Excellence Award (Panjab) and State Level Lakshvedhi Pradhyapak Pratibha Ratna Award (Thane). Faculty member, Mr Gavit S.S. persuing Ph.D. (Nanded University). Mr Amit Mali and Mr.Vishal Patil submitted their spiral draft of Ph.D. thesis to Shivaji University Kolhapur. Mr. Vishal Palit completed online certificate course of GIS from California University. Dr. Anita Magadum has well academic performance, and she has completed PG diploma in Digital Cartography with 1 st rank in Shivaji University, Kolhapur. My colleagues are strength of my department. We all together are trying as our level best to promote students and to maintain glorious meritorious tradition of department. Our students placed well in different fields.
